Broncos general manager and executive vice president of football operations John Elway doesn’t like what he’s seen out of his team since Denver’s bye week and he publicly called them out for it at an event Friday.

“I will tell ya, I think we got a little bit soft,’’ Elway told the audience at a Ring of Fame ceremony Friday night for coach Red Miller and Pro Football Hall of Famer Terrell Davis, via 9news in Denver. “To be dead honest with you, we got a little bit soft. We went 4-0 in the preseason, we started 3-1 we get a bye week and if you exhale in this league? You’re in trouble.

Apple had been excused from practice this week so he could take care of his mother, Annie. She underwent brain surgery on Thursday and wanted her son to be by her side.

The Cowboys defense had just three interceptions entering the game, but ended Alex Smith’s streak of 297 pass attempts with an interception. Smith finished 25 of 34 for 263 yards with two touchdowns and a fourth-quarter interception by Cowboys safety Jeff Heath.

Chiefs are vulnerable, but will still win the AFC West — Kansas City’s defense is 30th overall and 28th against the pass and will need to play better if the Chiefs are going to make a deep playoff run. While the Chiefs offense is plenty good to score points, if they have an off-day like they did against the Cowboys, it will be tough for them to beat the likes of the Steelers and Patriots in the AFC.nike_patriots_561
